Ghana beats Nigeria

The victory is the more sweeter because we beat Nigeria, our arch rivals. I have Nigeria friends, some very close ones. Unlike me, who supports Nigeria in any competition Ghana is not taking part, they sort of wish every African country should be knocked out if they are not in it. They feel they are the best in Africa. Ghana and Nigeria have always seen ourselves as rivals and losing to each other has always been the most painful.

Nigeria scored first from a penalty and we equalised at the stroke of half-time. Our captain was given the marching orders (straight red card) for a bad tackle. Ghana had to play with ten men for a good part of the second half. We were playing at home, hosting the 2008 African Cup of Nations. Being knocked out at the quarter finals would have been painful but being knocked out by Nigeria would have made matters worse.

Thankfully, we triumphed................Ghana 2, Nigeria 1
